ACADEMY OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM

The hospitality program will prepare students for careers in travel and tourism. Multiple Industry certifications are available and will appear with special notation on students diplomas.

Students will experience a unique classroom setting that focuses on project based learning and on developing the employability skills and teamwork that current employers are seeking. Communication, presentation, and writing skills are incorporated into the curriculum that benefit students by enhancing their skills. They also learn how to be an informed consumer including personal finance skills. Strategic partnerships will provide the opportunity for students to partner with companies like Disney, Sports and Entertainment businesses, such as the Florida Panthers and Miami Heat, and restaurants such as, Oceans234 and Duffy’s Sports Grill. Through a partnership with FRLA, students will also experience hotel and resort management with both Marriott and the Boca Raton Hotel.

HOPSITALITY TRACK COURSES

First Year: Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism

Introduces students to the skills necessary for success in the hospitality and tourism industry. Students have the chance to learn hospitality and tourism terminology and the mathematical, economic, marketing and sales fundamentals for the industry.

 

Second Year: Technology Hospitality & Tourism

Provides students the needed career specific instruction in travel and tourism. Students will learn sales techniques, marketing principles & entrepreneurship skills. Technology skills are incorporated to give students a competitive advantage in the workplace.

 

Third Year: Hospitality & Tourism Marketing Honors

Prepares students to make informed decisions and occupational goals regarding careers in hospitality and tourism. Content includes management, marketing, and operations of restaurant and food services, lodging, attractions and travel related services. Students will complete their internship this year.

Fourth Year: Hospitality Entrepreneurship Honors

Students will add Hotel Management certification to Servsafe and Microsoft Office specialist which identifies them as experts in their field. They also compete for JA South Florida Company of the Year.
