CONNECTING THE GENERATIONS

 CONNECTING THE GENERATIONS IS ICDc

 BOUND!

Every year thousands of elderly citizens are left in retirement homes with no support, visitation, or resources from family or friends. They rely on the retirement home staff and feel lonely leading to poor mental health. While some facilities offer entertainment, many residents are left to spend weeks, months, and years alone.

As a DECA chapter, we have a large amount of members ready to get involved in service projects. We have the resources available and the opportunity to help those in need in our community. The goal of this chapter project is to utilize our resources to bring light to the residents at Aston Gardens, a senior living community in our community, and potentially other retirement homes in the area.

Students will interact with residents at Aston Gardens through activities such as Adopt a Grandparent where they will travel to the facility and spend time with specific residents, Pen Pals where students interact with residents through written letters, as well as through events hosted by MSD, such as the spring drama show, where our chapter members can interact with residents directly at school. This project will have amazing benefits for the staff, the residents, and the students at Ashton Gardens. Having students around to interact and provide entertainment to the residents will significantly brighten the lives of the residents, helping their mental health.

As volunteers, we can help change the lives of the residents at Ashton Gardens, giving them something to look forward to! For more information, follow @msd.connectingthegems on Instagram and join the 2023-24 Remind by texting @msdctg to 81010!
